Error 404: Web Design Hellscape (Myth)

I like to think I am tech savvy but this assignment felt like I was clicking a whole bunch of buttons hoping something would stick.

This wasn't my first time making a website but it was the first time making it with Wix. At several points I wanted to fling my laptop into the sun because I couldn't figure out to make a picture transparent enough (I spent 10 minutes on this, no I'm not okay). I found myself focusing a little too much on making sure the optics looked good I didn't think about the links we had to include. Luckily I did end up adding them in before submission. I would say in the future when or if I ever need to make a website, I'll probably look around for something more my speed to work with because I do see the importance of having a website as a teacher. It could be helpful for students in situations when they can't make it to class and they need to know what they missed. That way they don't bother another student, all the information is right at their fingertips. The beauty of the World Wide Web!

I will say making a myth out of thin air was a little difficult at first. In the beginning I was thinking of going in the direction of politicians being the vampires of humankind but instead of blood they drain the life out of the people and the land. I changed my mind because I knew that it was a slippery slope that I wasn't willing to ride for this assignment. So I thought about my cats, I usually miss them when I'm at school all day and it hit me. My cats are my companions here, why wouldn't they be in the theoretical afterlife? I was excited mostly because it gave me a chance to show off my family of cats (who I adore! I know what you're thinking, 'here she goes again with the crazy cat lady bit') but I was most excited to talk about my angel boy, Bean. Writing the myth then became kind of easy, but I felt like I was trying to fill in as many plot holes as I could with the world limit I had and I still don't think I explained everything the best I could have. I think that the activity itself was fun, I know that through studying myth there's a lot of myths that are deeply important to different cultures so I wanted to be sure mine wasn't tied to anything in order to not appropriate or be offensive. And in the end, I think I did a pretty solid job.

  1. Kyrah,

I cannot tell you how much I relate to both the meme and the pain of making my website with wix. I felt confused, aged, and extremely frustrated with A WEBSITE. Or should I say, trying to create a website. UGH. I really love how transparent this post was. I felt like so many of our classmates have a hidden talent for creating myths, and I felt like every creative bone in my body had disappeared. the activity itself was fun, but the process of trying to operate wix was harder than any assignment I've done. I feel like we were able to really pour into the group projects because I wasn't trying to figure out the optics or learning curve of wix. Overall, thank you for making a relatable and honest post!
